Amazon 'Low Price' change in the works

Amazon will change the function of its "Low Price" icon for sellers' Marketplace Open Listings page.

Currently sellers see the "Low Price" icon even if another seller has the same item listed at a lower price but in a different condition.

Within a few weeks, Amazon says the "Low Price" icon will only be shown if the seller's item is priced lowest regardless of condition. Sellers with feedback on the proposed change can send comments to myl-feedback@amazon.com .

I'm not sure if sellers will be happy about this change. On the one hand, it might encourage lowballing, as sellers cut prices to keep the "Low Price" display. But apparently many sellers asked for this change, and it's not often that Amazon changes anything in response to feedback from sellers.

What do you think?

This stinks. Maybe some sellers asked for this, but the reason it happened is it is in Amazon's corporate interest to do it. The more lowballing that happens the better, as far as they're concerned. Marketplace is a cash cow - they make more on our sales than when they sell new books. Whether this puts some used booksellers out of business does not matter to them.

I think this will be helpful when sellers are adjusting their prices. Up till now, a seller wouldn't know if his item is the lowest priced or not. He'd have to actually go into the common listings and check all conditions.

I agree this could be helpful, especially for small sellers with a few hundred listings who can't justify a monthly subscription to a repricing tool.
