Postal Service upgrades Shipping Assistant software

The U.S. Postal Service released a new version of Shipping Assistant, its free desktop PC software that allows you to calculate postage and print labels.

New features in this release:
  • Labels for domestic shipments, including shipments to APO/FPO addresses, with optional return labels.
  • Labels for international shipments to every country served by U.S. Postal Service.
  • Merchandise Return labels to include with outgoing merchandise (with return postage charged to your postage payment account).

Steve,
I currently used Stamps.com, and am impressed with the capabilities of the new Shipping Assistant. It may be worth switching to save money on monthly subscription fees and labels, along with the ease of printing International labels. I have two questions:
1)Is Delivery Confirmation required on every shipment, and
2)Where do you actually enter your Credit Card information to purchase postage?

Any help from you or other readers would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work on the site. I also enjoyed your book, you beat me to it.

If you want to enjoy the convenience of printing your own postage you will have to stay with stamps.com or endicia. While the new version of Shipping Assistant IS a significant upgrade, it does not print postage.

And the Postal Service's 'Click n Ship' online postage printing service only prints Express and Priority mail pre-paid labels.

Delivery Confirmation is added to each SA label, free for Priority Mail and fourteen cents for other classes.

I don't think the Merchandise Return Labels are a very good idea as they might tend to encourage buyers to return merchandise they they otherwise might not. And to use this service as a seller you have to obtain a permit from the Postal Service, pay an annual fee, and deposit funds in advance to pay for any returns you may receive.

Hope this helps....
