One interesting tidbit about today’s first pick, “Daughter of Joy.” Only two new hardcover copies of this book remain for sale on Amazon, and they’re both priced at $900! It’s a 1999 Revell Book Club edition. (There are also two used copies available for less, and the reprinted paperback is in good supply — new copies start at $16.85.) At least that’s what I’m seeing on Amazon’s site this Wednesday morning.

Joe Vampire
Hey, folks. I’m Joe, and I’m a vampire – not by choice, mind you, but by accident…a fate-twisting, fang-creating, blood lust-inducing misunderstanding.
It started with a group date, a case of mistaken identity and far too many sake bombers, and ended with a ridiculous set of circumstances that I just can’t seem to wrap my head around.
Maybe you can tell: I’m not real happy about it. But I’m certainly not going to let it get in the way of my life. So I’ve thrown my ranting into a blog. I’m hanging out my dirty laundry in an effort to explain the real deal about being a card-carrying member of the Undead Elite. Maybe it will help others understand the truth about vampires. Believe me, it’s not all satin capes and naked ladies…none of it is, actually. Instead, it’s just one nasty little surprise after another. The truth bears exposing, and I’m pulling back the curtain on all of it. If I can figure out how to keep it from mowing me over in the process, then that’s groovy, too.
And that thing about vampires sparkling in the sun? That is a bunch of bull.

Emily blames her MIA, giantess mother, Marilyn, for her excessive height and embarks on a mom-quest to find her. So begins a journey that leads Emily to Arizona to meet her birth mother.
Then there’s Emily’s ex-best-friend-gone-wild, Trix. She has an attitude that won’t quit, two non-parents who don’t take care of her as much as she takes care of them, and a tendency to hook up with too many guys in her search for acceptance. When she finds out she has a chance to graduate early and study her passion–fashion design–at The Art Institute, she realizes she needs to pull herself out of her downward spiral and focus on her goal. But she might already be too far gone.
Emily and Trix, who have grown apart but whose lives still wind around each other like helices, work separately to figure out how to fit into a world that doesn’t much like girls who can’t, or won’t, conform to what’s ordinary.

FanGirl
I, Ruby Miller, age 18, am a fangirl. For some girls it may be a boy band or that hot actor on that Disney show. They tape posters in their lockers and buy Pop Beat Magazine to learn “101 Things that Make Drew Swoon!” One girl in my class has an obsession with vampires. The sparkly kind. Me? I like my paranormal just fine, but I prefer it coated in a fine layer of decomposing flesh, lack of circulation, and an inactive brain stem.
Zombies.
Zombies are my weakness. The Living Dead. Walkers. Rotters. Biters. Although I’m fascinated with the entire genre, I mainly stick to one type, one storyline, and one mythology. Zocopalypse, Issues 1-3. Graphic novels that describe the end of modern society and how a small group of survivors cope in the aftermath.
Accountability for my obsession lies squarely on the shoulders of Reid, my former boyfriend. He was my pusher; the guy who tipped me from average fan to full-fledged junkie. Not only did he introduce my best friend Iris and I to the glory of Zocopalypse (apocalypse+zombies+kickass characters=pure awesome), Reid ushered us into the fandom. He taught us everything we know about websites and blogs and Twitter accounts. Reid whet our appetites for forum discussions, endless supplies of fan fiction and navigating the ins-and-outs of fandom etiquette until every part of our day was living and breathing Zocopalypse.
